The wild wolf is an emblematic predator of the French mountains, playing an essential role in the balance of ecosystems by regulating herbivore populations. Mainly present in the Alps, Massif Central, Pyrenees and Vosges, it contributes to local biodiversity and forest preservation. Despite its legal protection, the wolf faces numerous human pressures: poaching, with acts of shooting, poisoning and trapping regularly reported in the field. In 2024, the estimated wolf population in France is around one thousand individuals, a slight increase on the previous year, but still insufficient to ensure the species' survival.Aware of the worrying situation, the Ross'Wild fund is providing financial support for a plan of concrete actions to protect the wolf, carried out in close collaboration with the LPO Auvergne Rhône-Alpes, in order to ensure its survival.
